How This Salary & Overtime Calculator Works

This calculator breaks your monthly salary down into daily, hourly, per-minute and per-second figures, then layers on your overtime pay to show your true gross earnings for the month. It's built for Indian salaried employees, hourly workers, factory staff, freelancers on retainer, and HR teams who need a quick, accurate overtime breakdown without opening a spreadsheet.

The Core Formulas

Worked Example: Suppose your monthly salary is ₹30,000, you work 26 days a month for 8 hours a day, and you put in 2 extra hours of overtime on 10 of those days at a 1.5x rate.
  • Daily Salary = 30,000 ÷ 26 = ₹1,153.85
  • Hourly Salary = 1,153.85 ÷ 8 = ₹144.23
  • Overtime Hourly Rate = 144.23 × 1.5 = ₹216.35
  • Total Overtime Pay = 216.35 × 2 hrs × 10 days = ₹4,326.92
  • Gross Salary = 30,000 + 4,326.92 = ₹34,326.92

Why Track Your Hourly & Overtime Rate?

Frequently Asked Questions

How is overtime pay calculated in India?

Overtime pay is calculated by first finding your normal hourly rate (monthly salary divided by working days, divided by working hours per day), then multiplying that hourly rate by the overtime multiplier (usually 1.5x or 2x) and by the number of overtime hours worked. Under the Factories Act, 1948, workers are entitled to twice their ordinary rate of pay for overtime hours.

What is the standard overtime rate in India?

Under the Factories Act, 1948, and most State Shops & Establishments Acts, the standard statutory overtime rate is 2x the ordinary hourly wage. Many private companies use 1.5x for salaried staff by internal policy, so always check your company's HR policy or employment contract for the exact multiplier that applies to you.

How do I calculate my hourly salary from monthly CTC?

Divide your monthly salary by the number of working days in the month to get your daily salary, then divide the daily salary by your working hours per day to get your hourly salary. For example, a monthly salary of ₹26,000 over 26 working days and 8 hours a day works out to ₹1,000 per day and ₹125 per hour.

Does this calculator account for PF, ESI or income tax deductions?

No. This tool calculates gross hourly, daily and overtime pay based on the monthly salary figure you enter. It does not deduct PF, ESI, professional tax or TDS. For a full breakdown of statutory deductions, use Numvexa's Salary (CTC to In-Hand) Calculator alongside this tool.

What if my working days per month change every month?

You can change the Working Days per Month field to match any specific month, such as 24, 26, 27 or 30 days. The calculator instantly recalculates your daily, hourly and overtime figures based on whatever value you enter, so it works for both fixed 26-day payroll cycles and actual calendar-day cycles.

Is overtime pay taxable in India?

Yes. Overtime pay is treated as part of your salary income under the Income Tax Act and is taxed at your applicable slab rate, just like your regular salary. It is added to your gross salary before computing taxable income for the financial year.
